Wow Stories

Watch this video of a guy planning to propose on the Brooklyn Bridge, and then the ring falls through the crack. Instead of despairing, he goes to find the ring. Luckily, he finds it and even though the band got a little messed up, the diamond stayed intact. That is how our true heart is sparkling like a diamond, maybe with some flaws, but strong as steel. This is my wow story of the week.

img_0001The fact that there were 155 people on board and everyone survived is a miracle. I take my hat off today to this pilot who maneuvered the plane to the water. These kind of stories make you think how life is so precious, and probably in that instant when the plane was coming down, many people started praying. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/plane_in_river_survivors. I know because my mother is the survivor of an airplane accident.

It was a long time ago when I was about 6 years old. But on that flight, not everyone was so lucky. Half the people died. My mom walked out without a scratch. She  says that in that moment all she did was ask God not to take her because she still had something to do in this world. First of all, she had 5 young children who were at home with my father. She was going to visit her family in Colombia.  Now after all these years, having witnessed a woman so incredible and her intense faith is enough reason for God to have spared. Her faith and belief in God is of steel, a strength I have never seen in anyone else.

Witnessing this all my life has been my greatest inspiration and honor.  I am glad God spared her so I could enjoy my life with her, as I still do. It is because of her that I have been able to gain my own strength in my challenges. She has been a good example. This picture was taken in June  in the pre-operating room right before my surgery. She has always been there for me in all my challenges. What a blessing!

Blind Teen Who Sees with Sound

by Blanca on January 14, 2009

in Wow Stories

(Update: May 7, 2009. I googled to get an update on Ben and he passed away on January 19, 2009, five days after this post. You can see more videos of him on his website: http://www.benunderwood.com/

I had seen this boy, Ben Underwood, on television last year.  He used a tongue clicking skill to be able to SEE. That’s right,
he’s blind and he could SEE by hearing sounds. It sounds incredulous, but it’s true.  Sometimes I think God brings special circumstances in people to inspire others. Now he is facing death, but his life is serving a purpose probably much greater than many dare to do in their lives.

Here is the story: http://www.miamiherald.com/living/story/849007.html. I always try to remember that whatever struggle I am going thru, someone is going thru something more difficult. These kind of stories are meant for a reason. It is sad that he is ill now, but at this young age, he has made a difference.

Here is a video when he was well showing what he can do. What an inspiration!

The Power of Instinct

by Blanca on December 8, 2008

in Wow Stories

This is an amazing story! Not only is the boy who survived freezing temperatures in a wooded field in Virginia three years old, but the puppies that protected him and kept him warm are in a sense the same age as the boy. They were without the mother but together they kept close together. Alone who knows what their fate would have been. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/us_world/2008/12/07/2008-12-07_puppies_save_threeyearold_boy_lost_in_fr.html.

The Power of Instinct and the warmth of bonding and being close is beyond any logic this three year old boy would have imagined. Yes, as the article says, it is truly a miracle!
